Authorized Applicator

ND Industries is an Authorized Applicator of 3M™ Fastener Adhesives and 3M™ Thread Sealants. 3M™ is a trademark of 3M Corporation, USA.

Overview

3M™ Fastener Adhesives are microencapsulated, room temperature-curing adhesives that enhance the anchorage of threaded fasteners. The adhesives are designed to be coated on the fasteners and dried; they remain dormant until the shearing action of engaging the fastener into a nut or threaded cavity breaks the capsules and allows the adhesive to cure. Typical applications are fasteners for the engine compartment or safety-related parts.

*Plastics prone to stress-cracking should not be used in proximity to 3M Fastener Adhesives.

How it Works

3M™ Fastener Adhesive products contain a microencapsulated epoxy resin that is suspended in a hardener. The force of thread engagement crushes the microscopic capsules of epoxy resin, mixing the reactant components, and initiating a chemical reaction which locks the parts together. This product series provides consistent and predictable torque values and requires no heat or primers for curing.

Features

Epoxy Chemistry

3M™ Fastener Adhesive products achieve high torque values on coated fasteners.

Robust Structural Bonding

3M™ Fastener Adhesive are resistant to heat, automotive fluids, vibration, thermal and mechanical shock.

Resists Chemicals

3M™ Fastener Adhesive products are resistant to heat, automotive fluids, vibration, thermal and mechanical shock.

Convenient Handling

3M™ Fastener Adhesive products have a controlled re-activity which causes the adhesive to activate and cure upon insertion.

Long Shelf Life

The 3M™ Fastener Adhesive products have an extended shelf-life for coated fasteners.

Re-usability

3M™ Fastener Adhesive products have limited re-usability (Additional caps break with each re-insertion)

Benefits

  • Saves Time: Fasteners coated with 3M™ Fastener Adhesive can be automatically fed through standard feeding devices – speeding up your process and improving productivity.
  • Saves Money: The bulk pre-application of 3M™ Fastener Adhesive to fasteners is less expensive than hand applying bottled thread locking compounds at the point of assembly. It also eliminates the need for costly lock washers, cotter pins or castellated nuts.
  • Quality Control: Pre-Applied 3M™ Fastener Adhesive fasteners are coated to specification, ensuring consistent performance, unlike the variation from hand applying bottled products.
  • Reliability: Under most operating conditions, 3M™ Fastener Adhesive products are unaffected by vibration or reversal of stress and greatly reduces the need to re-tighten fasteners.
  • Increased Margins: Add value to your fasteners without adding to inventory by supply customers with self-locking fasteners.

Notes

  • Under typical conditions, 3M™ Fastener Adhesive products have a fixture time of 4 hours with a full cure in 72 hours.
  • 3M™ Fastener Adhesive materials are normally applied one to three threads back from the end of a fastener to assure ease of starting.
  • As with all our Pre-Applied products, ND Industries can apply 3M™ Fastener Adhesive to your fasteners at any one of our regional service centers, or we can supply you with completed pre-applied fasteners.
  • *Shelf life of un-activated part is 1 year when at 4°-38°C (40°- 100°F)..
